THANK YOU to all of you who came out for my presentation last week “Rooted in Observation: The Garden Journal.” I was thrilled to see so many friendly faces and meet new friends while sharing a topic that I truly enjoy. I bought a garden journal on Amazon from Unikeep. It is a mini binder and there are options to order extra pages. Things i like: it is smaller (about 6 x 8.5″), has preprinted pages as well as plot pages and blanks, has plastic keepers for seeds or whatever, and has its own secure plastic binder that closes so if I leave it in the greenhouse or outside it will stay dry. A bonus is that I can order extra pages. The initial cost was less than $20. So glad I was able to attend your class and get some inspiration!
Wonderful, that is great to know and thank you for coming to the class. Waterproof! I hadn’t thought about that as an important feature, but you’re right–that would be super handy. Ah, you have a greenhouse–that’s awesome! My journals stay indoors typically, and notes I make outside are done on a small right in the rain waterproof pad I carry around in my tool belt. Then I transfer to the binder later. Thanks for sharing the system you use–I know there are great resources out there; almost too many to keep track of. Happy Journaling!
I was so inspired by your presentation, I couldn’t wait to begin reorganizing my own veggie garden journal. I began by adding tabs to my binder: Design, Seed to Harvest, Plant Care, Soil/Compost, Irrigation, Tools/Supplies, Seed Inventory and Info (helpful articles and how-to). In the front, I keep a calendar and To Do lists. I also found some useful journaling forms on dropbox.com.
